Episode 85 is pretty much a catch up session for news that has cropped up over the last few weeks. We've got so much to cover that we figured it was time for an all-Crier episode! This episode was recorded on August 9, 2015.

Campus Crier
  • MUP won the Silver ENnie for best podcast!
  • Modiphius got a Best Cover award for Achtung! Cthulhu.
  • Chaosium's Horror on the Orient Express won gold for Best Adventure, and silver for Best Production Values.
  • Dan went to GenCon!
  • Chaosium news from forums and the GenCon panel:
    • Merger with Moon Design, producer of Golrantha, which is coming back along with the RuneQuest & HeroQuest lines (Guide to Golrantha this year won a Diana Jones award, gaming excellence)
    • 7E: “Files are with the printer, going through the proofs” -- Hopeful for a Halloween 7E release date
    • Reinforcing idea that creators will get paid in full and on time
    • No more monographs in the future. Current monographs will not be reprinted, though they might “level up” to full Chaosium products.
    • BRP line will be taking a further back seat as it is the least selling product line.
    • Here's another roundup of the panel from YSDC
    • And here is the new management structureon Chaosium's blog.
  • Paizo’s next adventure path is called Strange Aeons, which is packed full of Mythos flavor.
Also check out the Pathfinder Adventure Path #46: Wake of the Watcher
  • Chad Bowser had to pull out of NecronomiCon due to unforeseen health issue. We wish him our best.

Excellent resource!

The Miskatonic University Podcast offers an entertaining and enlightening look at the Call of Cthulhu RPG, as well as all things Mythos-related and Lovecraft-adjacent. These guys clearly love what they do and they have great chemistry. Keep up the fantastic work, and GO PODS!

The Lovecraftian interlude "Wake of the Watcher" (4th of the six part Carrion Crown AP) was just a Lovecraftian insert, but CC was a (gothic) horror adventure path. The first part was a haunted prison, the second involved a Frankenstein sort of adventure, part three was werewolves, the fourth was the aforementioned Lovecraft themed one, the fifth was city of vampires, and sixth was the campaign culmination.

Another adventure path they did was less a horror one but included a trip to the Plateau of Leng and thus they included more stats for Mythos monsters.

Paizo has also produced stats for their 3.5 OGL-compatible RPG for dozens of Mythos monsters, including Shoggoths, Mi-Go, Nightgaunts, Shantaks, Zoogs, Yithians, Denizens of Leng (the men of Leng from their Black Galleys) as well as their masters the Moon-Beasts, and even Cthulhu himself as well as Hastur. As a fan of the Mythos, and an avid Pathfinder RPG gamemaster their continued deal with Chaosium has pleased me immensely.

Colonial Terrors has to be the worst Monograph on sale. This monograph is not even a finished project. It has numerous spelling error or grammatical error but that not the worse of it. It has sentences that stop midway though and missing NPC stats. Out of the five pregens three are missing stats. At best this a draft and not a finished product.

I respectfully disagree. While Colonial Terrors is truly a turdburger, Mysteries of Hungary is far worse.
That’s what you young chaps have got to remember – when you run, run, full speed, with never a thought for anything else; don’t look or listen or dither even for an instant; let terror have his way, for he’s the best friend you’ve got- Harry Flashman
