MUP Episode 3- Learn to do something and get a job!

Post by Keeper Dan » Mon Jul 30, 2012 11:32 pm

Now that you have your character’s attributes finalized, it’s time for that layabout to get a job and learn to do something. You may already know what career path your character will take, or you decided to let your attributes tell you what would work best. Either way, you now have to find some profession to make your character a contributing member of society.
Or they could be a hobo, we’re not here to judge.

What we are here to do is help you to get a feel for what your skills should be for the career you want for your character. Then there are the skills he or she knows just to keep themselves from going batty from their job. May I recommend the ukulele?

So here in episode 3, we go into the Careers and Skills phase of character creation.
Oh, and Keeper Dan finds out that he’s been using a house rule for the last 20+ years and never bothered looking in the book to see if it was official or not. There goes the credibility!

We also take our first visit to the Special Collections room, where we pour over the many-times translated Book of Eibon. There’s talk about how to use this book in a game, as well as the pronunciation of the name Eibon (EE-bon or EYE-bon).

Here is theBRP/CoC Skill Percent Cheat Sheet we talked about.

Wholeheartedly agree about the treatment of the book of Eibon from this podcast about treating it like ye grande olde wikipedia about there's no telling how much of the (probably less than 50%) is true/accurate. Can imagine easily someone thinking they are going to use a spell to summon some fish but instead throw in some D&D or Mage (from White Wolf) spell instead or just summon Hastur as the text of the spell is somewhat confused.

Once I start writing or throwing in a few extra spices in a scenario, I'll definitely do this as well as what I thought of with a rereading of Haunter of the Dark, where the cult in that church had a ton of occult books but what if someone was insane or wanting to wipe out some rival cult by making some inaccurate occult books similar to the Book of Eibon where it's more of a trap than a treat to find. Can use this for a hook to an unfortunate player or investigating some nearby explosion as some rival cult got one of these broken books.

Also big thanks on the great way to explain martial arts in 6th ed., hopefully it's less confusing in 7th ed.
