The New Annotated H. P. Lovecraft

Post by Grotonomus » Wed Apr 15, 2015 4:23 pm

Just curious if anyone has an opinion on the product. I only have a couple Lovecraft paperbacks at the moment and I'm looking for a nice hardcover with most if not all of the collected works.

I've heard a ton of great things about that edition, and I too plan to pick it up at some point. If you get it, I'd love to hear your opinion of it.

I am a happy owner of this book. Recommended.

It is not a complete works of HPL, although there are certainly enough collections of HPL's stories floating around to pick up the remaining stories.

Good to know, after some more digging I think I'm going back to the book store and grabbing this up. I just spoke to a friend that recently picked it up as well. She's never read Lovecraft but is a fan of the product and only got it because of the game I'm running. :D

If you just want the stories, I would recommend:

Necronomicon and Eldritch Tales. IIRC they contain all the stories and look really nice too.

Figured I would post some images if you wanted to see some samples of the kind of annotations that are in the book. It's pretty diverse, I tried to get some different types of themes.

Having seen it, at the literary group I'm part of, while it's quite big, it's focusing on the main stories & not all of them so the other S.T. Joshi annotated versions might be needed depending on the story. With regards to the new annotated book, I've not read it but I got the annotated Dracula by Leslie Klinger & it's wonderful so I imagine this Lovecraft annotated book will be equally as good.

That looks pretty spiffy, I guess another Lovecraft book couldn't be bad. I mean, no one ever got hurt by books, right? :cthulhu1:
